West Memphis Police Department

West Memphis, AR

Public calls for service ring at the county’s consolidated PSAP located at the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Office in West Memphis. The dispatchers at this PSAP are handling calls for multiple agencies on several different talkgroups.[¹]

Radio traffic consists solely of plain English. The NATO phonetic alphabet is used. West Memphis is in the Memphis Metro Area. The West Memphis Police Department uses “Memphis PD-style” radio procedure.

The communications center answers to “dispatch” or “West Memphis.” West Memphis Police officers use 200 and 300 series callsigns, as well K series callsigns for their canine handlers.

The West Memphis Police Department uses the State’s APCO P25 Phase II AWIN system. They primarily use two sites but I can only pick up the one at Shell Lake. That antenna, operating under FCC callsign WQBZ905, is 308 feet above the ground, near Interstate 40 in Shell Lake. The West Memphis Police Department has more than one talkgroup but, as with all other agencies I monitor, I only broadcast the routine dispatch talkgroup.

1. The agencies these dispatchers are fielding calls for include the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Office, West Memphis Police and Fire, Marion Police and Fire, Earle Police and Fire, Jericho Police, Crittenden EMS, and others.
