West Memphis Police Department
Public calls for service ring at the city PSAP, located at the West Memphis Police Department.
Radio traffic consists solely of plain English. The NATO phonetic alphabet is used. West Memphis is in the Memphis Metro Area. The West Memphis Police Department uses “Memphis PD-style” radio procedure.
The communications center answers to “dispatch” or “West Memphis.” I’ve heard West Memphis Police officers use 200 and 300 series callsigns, as well K series callsigns for their canine handlers.
The Marion Police Department uses the State’s APCO P25 Phase II AWIN system. They primarily use two sites but I can only pick up the one at Shell Lake. That antenna, operating under FCC callsign WQBZ905, is 308 feet above the ground, near Interstate 40 in Shell Lake. The West Memphis Police Department has more than one talkgroup but, as with all other agencies I monitor, I only broadcast the routine dispatch talkgroup.
